For Someone Special

Little steps are what I have been taking since getting home from the hospital. I had such a flurry of activity of producing work prior to my surprise surgery that it almost feels as if I am refilling the well. That is a term that Julia Cameron, writer of “The Artist’s Way” and other creative process books, would call it. I never quite got through that book. I still have it but …well you know.

I have been sorting through where I am going with my work and how I want to proceed. Using my word of the year, Courage, means making thoughtful and less predictable decisions in choosing what I do with my creative work. Part of courage is having faith. The faith I have is that the outcome will be much better then I could hope for. The droughts of pure drivel and crap sometimes make that seem like a pipe dream. Since I have limited amounts of energy to make the journey towards that golden light I have made a couple of little pieces.

These are mixed media fabrics stitched and shaped into small little works of art that can be worn as pins. I must confess that I had originally thought of doing hearts for Valentine’s Day. Since that plan got blown out of the water, I just think that hearts and tokens of affection are good for any day.

It shouldn’t just be for valentines. My special someone is someone I cherish everyday and by gosh I like to show it. Also these are nice little gifts to give to oneself. If I don’t love me who will?
