For Someone Special

Little steps are what I have been taking since getting home from the hospital. I had such a flurry of activity of producing work prior to my surprise surgery that it almost feels as if I am refilling the well. That is a term that Julia Cameron, writer of “The Artist’s Way” and other creative process books, would call it. I never quite got through that book. I still have it but …well you know.

I have been sorting through where I am going with my work and how I want to proceed. Using my word of the year, Courage, means making thoughtful and less predictable decisions in choosing what I do with my creative work. Part of courage is having faith. The faith I have is that the outcome will be much better then I could hope for. The droughts of pure drivel and crap sometimes make that seem like a pipe dream. Since I have limited amounts of energy to make the journey towards that golden light I have made a couple of little pieces.

These are mixed media fabrics stitched and shaped into small little works of art that can be worn as pins. I must confess that I had originally thought of doing hearts for Valentine’s Day. Since that plan got blown out of the water, I just think that hearts and tokens of affection are good for any day.

It shouldn’t just be for valentines. My special someone is someone I cherish everyday and by gosh I like to show it. Also these are nice little gifts to give to oneself. If I don’t love me who will?

I have started work on a couple of new pieces. Slowly started that is. I am still in recovery mode from my surgery and get pooped out very quickly. But I have started a new birdie mobile and am sketching ideas for some mixed media pieces. I wish I had had the time to do the Valentine's mixed media pins for the gallery. I may whip few up for when I go into the open house tonight. I have tons of work stuff to do for both myself and the gallery.

I have a couple of other bird mobiles to put online as well. The one pictured here is of a red colorway. I really like it with the ginko style leaves.

The etsy Maine Team has also posted out a challenge that I would like to participate in. It is with ACEO's. Those work up fairly fast. You can read about that here.

Funny how I can find the energy to do studio work but not housework. Or maybe that is a no brainer.

The One that got Away

This mobile was to be part of my jury pieces for the MCA gallery in Gardiner. However since I was detained in the hospital I had to cancel. There will be other opportunities to be had. I will now have something to put in my etsy store and another one in my artfire store.

I am slowly getting my energy back. Trying to get back into the swing of things other then napping. Naps are good though.

Brave New World

I sit here with a new sense of purpose. I think spending almost 2 weeks in the hospital after emergency surgery gives me a bit of new found clarity. I will not go into a great deal of detail since it is rather intimate and I just don't feel like sharing that much detail with the WORLD! That being said I have been slowly getting back to hand stitching since my release a couple of days ago. I am also posting from my darling's laptop to none of my pictures are on here. Posting pics will have to wait!
